After graduating in Graphic Arts from Escola del Treball in his native Barcelona, José Manuel Villanueva moved to New York City, where he later earned a BFA in Graphic Design and Multimedia from the City College of New York.
While in school, José focused his studies on classic and contemporary art as well as graphic design and typography, and he worked closely with several world-known designers, like Ina Saltz and Alex White.
¶ José Manuel has always felt inspired by his surroundings. From creating the winning poster of Barcelona's Festa Major d'Estiu to developing the corporate identity of five award-winning restaurants in New York, it is this inspiration that has driven his graphic design work.
¶ He has taught graphic design at The City College of New York, and worked as a Senior Designer and Production Manager for AM New York, Manhattan's largest circulation daily.
¶ Jose Manuel is currently working on a multimedia installation about the life of the new wave of immigrants arriving in Barcelona, as well as a series of photographs that capture the magnificent light alongside the Mediterranean Sea.
